The Difficulty of Writing

                                 The Difficulty of Writing

Writing faces many different kinds of struggles. First, there's the trials of the English language, mixed with the American version thereof. Second; when you first start writing you're faced with many rules of grammar, some you either forget while writing, or you'd rather forget as a writer. When I first wrote Zathena and the Sky Pirates with Kenzie, she and I honestly didn't have enough training to know the small rules to grammar. In fact, the mistakes make hilarious inside jokes later on.
As a writer I know I continue to make mistakes on writing, but that's the beauty of the written word. It's always evolving and changing. The way I write in a term paper will not be the way I speak to my friends or my boss even.
Words do tricky things. Sometimes when writing you think you're writing about one thing, but later on realize not everyone will understand what you wrote because in fact that word in their city or hometown, could become something completely different. Let's take the word, Mammy-Huff to some, this is a person. Heck, its a name of a person anyway. But from where I grew up, this is, in reality a harsh slang term for, hooker, whore...etc; you get the rest. Yet, if you never knew that, and you named a character of your book, Mammy-Huff ... and someone from my town read it, well they'd laugh or even scoff; I know of a few who'd put the book down.
This is the beauty of words. Of course not every person in the world has time to look up every slang or offensive word just to preserve the conscience of the reader, avoiding offense. That's why when we wrote our first book, it was written like a diary. From the perspective of a young, naive child who, honestly makes too many mistakes to count. I honestly want to comfort her and help her though life. Then I'd be helping myself. That's a topic for another day.
The truth is, writing is not difficult, it should be fun and engaging, evoking emotions and causing reactions. Turning every line of pure thought onto a page for others to read. Honestly when you read you become like Emma Frost from Marvels X-Men (Getting off topic again)
Not everyone will ever agree with what you write. For our novel, the grammar is especially bad during dialog, adding commas where need-not-be for the character pausing. (that's right folks you read it here, commas are for pausing.) We all understood our weaknesses and mistakes before publishing. (The way we write in a term paper will not be the way we speak to our friends) and isn't it true. I've had so many proof readers try to edit my dialog boxes, telling me, "and you're trying to be an author?" TRYING? I already was when you said that (words I am too above to write down) statement. Being too tough on ourselves for grammar is what causes us to be afraid or detest the written word. NO ONE should EVER feel like, just because a mental illness, physical illness or minimal years of schooling is pulling them down that they are inadequate to change the world around us.
With writing you take thoughts and turn them into real tangible worlds to escape your fears and struggles. You become you. and you help others understand who you are.

These are the struggles to writing.
